Timeline

The Hajj journey at a glance

This is a practical overview. Exact timings and rulings depend on your Hajj type, official arrangements and your group's religious guidance.

1

Prepare before departure

Check official requirements, passport validity, vaccinations, Hajj permit arrangements, medication, luggage, group meeting points and emergency contacts.

2

Enter Ihram

Perform the recommended preparation, wear appropriate Ihram clothing where applicable, avoid prohibited actions and enter the sacred state before crossing the relevant Miqat.

3

Intention and Talbiyah

Make the Hajj intention according to your Hajj type and continue reciting the Talbiyah as taught by your group scholar.

4

Arrival in Makkah

Follow your group plan carefully. Some pilgrims perform arrival Tawaf depending on their Hajj type and schedule.

5

Tawaf

Circle the Ka'bah seven times with humility, keeping crowd safety and group guidance in mind.

6

Sa'i

Walk between Safa and Marwah seven lengths where required for your Hajj type.

7

Travel to Mina

On 8 Dhul Hijjah many pilgrims proceed to Mina, settle into camp and focus on prayer and rest.

8

Day of Arafat

On 9 Dhul Hijjah pilgrims stand at Arafat, make dua and remain with their group until departure after sunset.

9

Muzdalifah

After Arafat, pilgrims proceed to Muzdalifah, pray, rest as able and collect pebbles if instructed by their group.

10

Rami

Pilgrims stone the Jamarat according to the Hajj schedule and official safety arrangements.

11

Sacrifice

The sacrifice is usually arranged through approved channels. Confirm how your package handles this.

12

Shaving or trimming

Men shave or trim; women trim a small amount according to scholarly guidance.

13

Tawaf al-Ifadah

A central Hajj rite performed after the major Hajj day according to your group's timing.

14

Remaining days in Mina

Pilgrims spend the appointed days in Mina and complete Rami according to their schedule.

15

Farewell Tawaf

Many pilgrims perform Tawaf al-Wida before leaving Makkah. Ask your scholar about exceptions and personal circumstances.

Pilgrims should consult a qualified scholar or their group's religious guide for rulings specific to their circumstances, especially around Hajj types, exemptions, women's circumstances, illness and timing constraints.

Carry water and rest when your group pauses.

Keep hotel, tent and group contact details accessible.

Follow official crowd-control instructions even if plans change.
